HEALTH SERVICE AND INSURANCE
Polish students with health insurance may use the free-of charge health service within the National Health Fund.
Students from the European Union may take advantage of the cost free health service (providing that they have a valid health insurance policy in their country and the European Health Insurance Card). In order to use the free medical service within National Health Fund (NHF) the following documents need to be submitted:
European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), valid student card, valid passport or any document verifying the identity.
On fulfilling the conditions, students have the right to use the free health service, on the same level as all the other students. The lack of any of the above mentioned documents will result in covering the medical expenses by a student.
The EU citizens without EHIC, that is, not insured in their own country are obliged to conclude the agreement with NHF and to buy the insurance paying 36,75 zł/monthly. However, in such a situation they must show the E104 form issued in the country of their residence, informing since when the person was insured and confirming the lack of insurance policy.
Students outside the EU should buy the insurance set KL+ NNW ( costs of medical treatment and accident insurance). The receipt together with the agreement number must be presented while using the medical care.
Depending on the agreement, people with the insurance may be exempt from medical care costs or ask for refund in their country. The insurance certificate needs to be shown, otherwise the patient will have to pay for the medical care alone.
The insurance policy can be bought in insurance companies or travel agencies in the country of their residence.
People not from the EU countries but studying in Poland at 1st, 2nd or 3rd cycle studies can sign the contract with National Health Fund and buy the insurance for 36,75 zł/monthly.
Foreigners of Polish descent can ask the Polish university, where they study, to cover the insurance costs (then the institution pays the insurance premium to NHF).
Concurrent Enrollment students and students of the doctoral courses cannot make an agreement with the NHF on conditions mentioned above. They must purchase the insurance policy in an insurance company in the country of their origin, or in Poland.
